Dragged to the George Clooney flick over the weekend. Not a fan of his at all, but most of the movie was alright. Unfortunately the ending was absolutely horrid, and for me that spoils the rest of it. No film is worth the ridiculous price of admission these days, which is why I don’t see very many, but this one just made me mad that we paid anything at all.
Of course, it could’ve been worse.

Can you be a little more specific about why you hated the ending? I’m just curious, I saw the movie over the holidays as well. You’re not the only one I’ve heard say that.

Aww, not a Clooney fan?
Don’t like his politics, but he is a pretty good actor, IMO.

I avoided specifics so as to not spoil it for others, but the ending just kind of leaves you cold. There is no payoff…I don’t care for movies where the audience is strung along then suddenly cut loose. I took the theme to be that his philosophy on relationships left one empty and unfulfilled; just as he realizes the same, suddenly he gets the proverbial punch to the gut by the woman who was making him reconsider? Seems like a cheap way to wrap things up.
And Phil, his politics don’t matter to me one way or another in terms of seeing a film. I saw One Fine Day with him and Michelle Pfeiffer years ago, at the behest of my date…I hate movies like that, and I’ve just not been a fan since.

Interesting, thanks for taking the time to explain. I think the film makers intended for the audience to feel very much like the people felt fired by Clooney and associates in the movie- suddenly cut loose, as you put it. Certainly no happy ending. Just like much of life, I suppose.
I think my favorite serious Clooney movie was Michael Clayton, and the 1st Oceans movie was cotton-candy fun. Did not like Solaris nor his version of Batman. Syriana was good, hard to watch, though.

You’re probably right. I’ve not seen the other movies you mentioned, aside from the Batman one. And yeah, that was horrendous.

Anon, the Oceans Eleven remake was very good. Not so high on the sequels, though.
