“I think I’ve made myself clear, young lady.” Um, no, you didn’t:

What a condescending tone he took with that reporter. Sexist! Who can blame her for being confused? He said he won’t raise taxes, but then turns around and says he’ll raise money for transportation. What, is he going to hold bake sales and raffles? Oh, but he meant only not raising general fund taxes, which includes the gas tax which he does want to raise, or is open to raising…got it. He won’t, but he will! Woo hoo! My favorite part, though, is this little nugget from the debate:

Deeds, trailing in recent polls, was the more combative of the two. He hit McDonnell several times on the thesis, once drawing groans from an audience of about 500 northern Virginia business leaders.

Yeah, might be time to focus on something other than a thesis. Is it just me, or is Deeds running an extremely poor campaign? I don’t detect much enthusiasm at all for him, and he just seems to be running on, well, nothing. Might have been enough last fall with Obama on the ballot and a favorable political climate for Democrats, but things will be much different this time around. Notice how he wouldn’t say he’s an Obama Democrat? I’m sure that wasn’t by accident.

Plus, how the Washington Post continues to function as an arm of the Deeds campaign.

Oh…on the other hand, here’s a poll showing the race is essentially a toss-up. Leaners are included, and the poll does note that McDonnell’s support is more solid than Deeds’ is. Time will tell if that continues, but I’m guessing this video, which is sure to show up in McDonnell campaign ads, probably won’t help the latter’s cause any. Not that WaPo readers will notice, of course.

UPDATE
: Another poll released today has McDonnell up by 7. Which extremist right-wing outfit is behind such obvious lies? Erm, Daily Kos. Also:

The latest Kos survey (Sept 14-16, 600 LV, MoE +/- 4%) finds McDonnell with a 56%/40% favorable rating and Deeds at 47%/42%. McDonnell has the support of 89% of Republicans, higher than Deeds’s 80% take among Democrat. Independents favor McDonnell by a 51%-38% marginPresident Obama has a net negative rating, as 45% view him favorably while 48% see him unfavorably. Sen. Mark Warner (D) holds the highest favorable rating among the statewide officials tested with 63%, followed by Sen. Jim Webb (D) with 53% and Gov. Tim Kaine (D) with 45%.
