Via The Corner, Democrat Chris Van Hollen discussing the potential loss of Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat and others this November:
“Why would you hand the keys to the car back to the same guys whose policies drove the economy into the ditch and then walked away from the scene of the accident?” Van Hollen said.
Hey, at least he used ditch instead of lake, right?
Ahem. Anyway, all eyes are on Massachusetts today, and don’t think Democrats aren’t keenly aware of what it will mean should Scott Brown do the unthinkable. To wit, “We are in deep s— if we lose on Tuesday.”
I leave you with the immortal words of our modern-day Murrow, Keith Olbermann. How reckless and how sad, indeed:

A little history for you about Chris Van Hollen…
Van Hollen should thank the Gods of redistricting that he has a seat, considering that his district (MD-8) was held by Republican Connie Morella (though she was considered a liberal Republican) for 16 years. That district was gerrymandered by Parris Glendening (just like he did to Bob Ehrlich) so that a Democrat would win and reduce the GOP’s then-majority in the House.
What Glendening did was add a Democratic-near-monopoly portion of Prince George’s County to Morella’s district. In the districts that remained part of the Maryland 8th, Morella beat Van Hollen. However, she lost that area of PG County so badly that Van Hollen was able to win by less than 5 points. Of course, Morella did not “know” that district, having never represented it until the last 1 1/2 years of her tenure.
In essence, if it weren’t for very ambitious gerrymandering, Chris Van Hollen would not even be on Capitol Hill. In fact, I seriously believe that after the Dems lose a good load of seats in November, Van Hollen will be out as chair of the DCCC.

Phil, Don’t go hurting yourself by dancing too hard in the end zone already.
Recall that the 1994 Republican HCR killers were slaughtered in November. Not necessarily a direct cause and effect, but it happened nonetheless.

You think the Dems will have a strong majority after November?
