Thank You, Kirstie Alley!

Through the magic of Twitter…sanity:

JUST FOR THE RECORD….RAPE IS RAPE…this is one HOLLYWOOD STAR who does not CELEBRATE or DEFEND Roman Polanski..his ART did not RAPE her

To what is the former Cheers star referring to? In 1977, then-45 year old Polanski drugged, raped, and sodomized a 13-year old girl at the home of Jack Nicholson. Go here to read the girl’s grand jury testimony. He eventually pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of statutory rape, but right before his sentencing he fled to France, supposedly fearing that the judge planned to renege on the plea arrangement and put his sorry arse in prison. Imagine that, right? He had been on the lam ever since, until this past weekend when the Swiss arrested him as he sought to attend a film festival in Zurich. Naturally, the POS is fighting extradition back to the US, and his story has become a cause celebre within certain circles. First, here’s a Washington Post columnist expressing her outrage over his arrest. Yes, really. Then, you had Whoopi Goldberg declare that it wasn’t really rape rape:

And she’s not alone. Over one hundred film industry nutjobs have also signed a petition asking that Polanski be released. Among them: Martin Scorsese (hate his crappy movies anyway), and yes, Woody Allen, who has never seen a young teenage girl he didn’t like. Debra Winger, Harvey Weinstein, and others have lent their support to the child rapist, too, all of which begs the question…what in God’s name is wrong with them?

Deeds Slips In Latest Polls UPDATED DNC Withholding Money?

Perhaps the man with the plan to have a plan needs another, er, plan:

PPP (A Democrat polling firm)- McDonnell 48, Deeds 43
Survey USA- McDonnell 55, Deeds 41
Rasmussen- McDonnell 51, Deeds 42

Who knows what’ll happen in a month, but what’s interesting at this point-to me, anyway-is McDonnell’s significant lead among so-called independent voters. Survey USA has him up by 24 amongst that voting bloc…probably an outlier, but even PPP shows him up by 16 there, while an older one by Insider Advantage, which showed only a 4 point overall McDonnell lead, had Taliban Bob winning indies by 22 points. Perhaps that all will change as we get closer to Election Day, but at this point they don’t seem to be buying whatever Deeds is selling.

Maybe they just haven’t heard about the thesis yet and McDonnell’s plan to resurrect the Dark Ages, I dunno.

UPDATE
- From a Lefty site:

The bad poll news comes on the heels of a story circulating in Democratic circles today that the Democratic National Committee is reportedly holding on to its $5 million financial commitment to the Deeds campaign out of concern that the Deeds campaign has focused too much of its attention on the controversial Bob McDonnell 1989 grad-school thesis setting out a hardline social-conservative political agenda for his budding political career and not enough on putting down a framework for what a Deeds administration would do for Virginia.

I’m not sure what to make of stories circulating amongst Dems (I just assumed their conversations consisted of “pull my finger” gags), but if Tim Kaine’s (D-VA Gov. in absentia) DNC is indeed holding onto that dough, they must have very real concerns about his campaign and his ability to win. Why waste it on a losing effort when they’ll more than likely need it to help endangered Democrat incumbents in 2010? It’s a big if, and I’d be shocked if this is actually true or remains the case for much longer, but very interesting nonetheless.

‘Can We Make America Better? Yes, Yes We Can!’

Aww, how sweet. No wonder Obama wants to extend the school day…imagine the songs we’d get to hear if they had more time to practice:

Performed at a PTA meeting, in case you’re curious. Its admittedly less creepy than the last video I posted here, but I’m at a loss to explain why someone thinks its OK to include a politician’s campaign slogans in a song performed by elementary school kids. How long before VA children are singing, ‘Ol McDonnell had a thesis, ee-i-ee-i-oh’?

That Lying, No Good Creigh Deeds

From the Lynchburg News-Advance:

The thesis was an easier weapon to wield than the weighty issues Deeds has consistently ignored in his relatively few broader conversations with the Virginia electorate.

His television ads have been below-the-belt and beyond-the-pale attacks. The most egregious was the spot entitled “$300 Million,” which has been on a constant loop in Central and Southwest Virginia. The ad outright blames McDonnell for the increase in electricity bills that Appalachian Power Co. customers have seen in recent months, a blatant lie and distortion. Equally as disturbing, because it reveals quite a bit about the ethically challenged campaign, was the ad, again based on the infamous 20-year-old thesis, all but painting McDonnell as a knuckle-dragging Neanderthal on women’s and social issues.

Have I mentioned before that Deeds is a lousy candidate? I think I have. His campaign has been mind-numbingly bad, in large measure because he’s got a myriad of faces for whichever part of Virginia he’s trying to fool. In Northern Virginia, for example, Deeds support for tax increases to pay for transportation is touted as a positive. Yet, in the Hampton-Roads region, he’s apparently running radio spots denouncing Bob McDonnell as one too willing to raise taxes…to pay for transportation. What?!? Oh, and that Appalachian Power Company ad cited above? A Deeds fantasy, just made up as he went along.

But, ‘ethically-challenged’ ads and attacks are all Deeds really has. That, and a voting record which is inconsistent with much of what he says now, if you believe what he says now:

Deeds and McDonnell voted to put on the ballot a state constitutional amendment prohibiting civil unions and same-sex marriage. Deeds said he voted for the amendment because he believed that it codified laws banning same-sex marriage. But he said he came to regret his decision and to believe that the language was discriminatory and said so publicly before the 2006 balloting.

Charley Conrad, president of the Virginia Partisans Gay and Lesbian Democratic Club, which has endorsed Deeds, attributes his views to a rural upbringing and said he trusts that Deeds views have changed. “He likes to say he is a work in progress,” he said.

Yeah, a ‘work in progress’. Or, he says and does whatever is politically expedient at the time, the truth be damned. I know which way I’m leaning.

Shocking: Tea Party Riots In Pittsburgh!

Well, liberals have been warning about this for a few months now. Political protests getting out of control, people becoming violent…oh wait, these weren’t right-wingers. They were radical Leftists:

The march turned chaotic at just about the time that President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama arrived for a meeting with leaders of the world’s major economies.

The clashes began after hundreds of protesters, many advocating against capitalism, tried to march from an outlying neighborhood toward the convention center where the summit is being held.

The protesters banged on drums and chanted “Ain’t no power like the power of the people, ’cause the power of the people don’t stop.”

Did you hear anything about rocks being thrown at police or storefront windows being smashed during the 9/12 protest in DC? I didn’t. Of course, most of the attendees were no doubt exhausted from their ride through the countryside, so they probably didn’t have the energy for such behavior.

Does Joe Biden consider the people rioting during the G20 summit turkeys, as well, just as he believes some of his fellow Democrats to be?

Doug Wilder To Creigh Deeds: Get Bent

Ouch. Not even a call from the One himself could persuade the nation’s first African-American governor to endorse Deeds:

Pointing to Deeds’ support for gun rights and his willingness to raise taxes, Wilder wrote in an online column that he plans to keep his powder dry.

“The question before me is whether I support the Democratic candidate’s position in addressing these issues,” Wilder wrote on the Web site Virginia Tomorrow. “I have not thus far in the progress of the campaign, and as aforesaid refrain from so doing.”…

Throughout the campaign, Wilder has criticized Deeds for not defining himself or his positions on certain issues.

With enthusiasm for Deeds already lukewarm amongst Democrats as well as the African-American community, the lack of an endorsement by Wilder, well, isn’t helpful. Wilder has nothing to gain really by refusing to back the Democrat candidate, so I suspect at the end of the day he just doesn’t think Deeds will win. His criticisms over the tax issue hurt, and his earlier observations of Deeds as a veritable enigma still ring true.

McDonnell was busy getting the endorsement of the Fraternal Order of Police, apparently, so he had no comment. Nor did his wife, who when last seen was barefoot and pregnant, slaving over a stove (naturally). The Deeds campaign said they respected Wilder’s decision, then asked if anyone had heard about McDonnell’s thesis.

Reason 4,978 To Homeschool UPDATED School District Releases Statement

Nope, no indoctrination here:

Gee, that’s awfully creepy. When was this performed? Might it have been after Obama’s speech to schoolchildren recently? Listen closely, and you’ll hear political slogans (”Equal work gets equal pay”) as well as Obama comparisons to Jesus (”Red and yellow; black and white…they are equal in his sight”…remember Sunday School?). I’m guessing the line about all of Obama’s accomplishments was meant as a gag. It was a riot to me, anyway. Most disturbing, though, is the fact they said his middle name. I recall a time when such a thing was a scare tactic, or something.

I hope those kids paid attention to those lyrics, too. They might be quizzed on it later.

UPDATE: Apparently, the video was orchestrated by Charisse Carney-Nunes, a Sr VP at The Jamestown Project (described by some as far-Left, though I’ve never heard of it) who also wrote the children’s book “I Am Barack Obama”. All that garnered from the original publisher of the video on YouTube, BrandNuWords; BrandNewWords is the publishing company Carney-Nunes founded. She’s apparently made appearances at other schools, too, invited to do so I guess.

So…were parents aware of that particular activity beforehand? Was the school?

UPDATE: The answer to the 2nd question? Yes:

Today we became aware of a video that was placed on the internet which has been reported in the media. The video is of a class of students singing a song about President Obama. The activity took place during Black History Month in 2009, which is recognized each February to honor the contributions of African Americans to our country. Our curriculum studies, honors and recognizes those who serve our country. The recording and distribution of the class activity were unauthorized.

Deeds Transportation Op-Ed Fail

If the title of one’s Washington Post op-ed is ‘My Transportation Plan’, dontcha think it would behoove that person to spell out what that plan actually is? Not if your Democrat Creigh Deeds. He spends a few paragraphs paying lip service to how important the issue is, vague goals he’d like to see and so forth, but in the end can only offer this:

The day after I’m elected, I will begin assembling a bipartisan commission to craft a comprehensive transportation package. Like Gov. Baliles did, I will appoint Republicans, Democrats and independents along with private-sector leaders and transportation experts. The commission would begin work in December and issue its report early next year.

Got that? He’s going to have some unelected bureaucrats decide for him after the election. So, his plan is to come up with a comprehensive plan after Virginia voters have presumably selected him as their next governor. Brilliant. Why didn’t McDonnell think of that before he released his voluminous and very detailed plan? Stupid Taliban Bob (the Left is so darn witty, I just had to use that), shoulda just insulted voters by telling them they’d have to wait until after they voted to hear what he’ll do. (Good to know we’ve found at least one Taliban they’d like to defeat, anyway.)

Incidentally, McDonnell also won the endorsement of the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce today. Apparently, Creigh Deeds turned in such a sterling performance during the recent debate they decided he’d just be too darned awesome for Virginia and went the other way. Yeah, lets go with that. Turns out, Deeds is having a little trouble connecting with business leaders:

With major backing from unions, conflicting promises on taxes and no details on how to fix the state’s mounting transportation crisis, Deeds is not swaying some business-minded voters who are jittery about the economy and who say they don’t like what they see as Deeds’s uncertain positions on a host of critical state and federal issues.

Doubts about Deeds’s business support have pervaded the campaign this week, as has the perception that his Republican opponent, Robert F. McDonnell, has more persuasively made the case that he will create jobs, keep taxes low and protect Virginia’s right-to-work laws…

“He never addressed the issue of ‘What is your plan,’ ” said C. Daniel Clemente, a real estate investor from McLean who supported Warner in 2001 but said he left Thursday’s debate feeling “very sorry” for Deeds. ” ‘I’m for education’ — what’s your plan? ‘I’m for transportation. I’m going to bring everybody together.’ To do what?”

His plan, Mr. Clemente, is to have a plan after he’s elected. Why isn’t that good enough, haters? ‘Conflicting’ promises, ‘uncertain’ positions, ‘no details’…in other words, the Deeds campaign-and his possible governorship, no doubt-in a nutshell.

Overpaid Celebs Goof On Overpaid Healthcare Execs, Plus…

Probably the funniest thing Will Ferrell has done since, um, Bewitched. Gulp:

Boring, way too long, inaccurate, and not all that witty…I’m shocked. I wish when they did these things they’d include actual celebrities; the only one I recognize is that douche Ferrell. Speaking of the SNL alum, here are some of his recent flicks and the salary he “earned” with each:

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) $20,000,000
Bewitched (2005) $20,000,000
Kicking & Screaming (2005) $20,000,000
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) $7,000,000

Yeah, a guy who made tens of millions churning out utter garbage like Talladega Nights dares to point the finger at others for making too much. What a tool.

Oh, speaking of tools… Read the rest of this entry »
