Here’s your chance. Tell me why one would want to vote for McCain. Also I you think there are any reasons I would want to vote for him, fire away.
Comments left on this thread attacking people for their reasons will be heavily edited. I want any McCain supporters out there to leave their honest opinions. I may later start a thread to discuss some of the reasons given, but for now I really want to know what qualities people see in McCain that make them want to vote for him. Answers like, “He’s not Obama.” will also be heavily edited. I want to know about McCain.

I’m gonna give this a try, though I am by no means his biggest fan…
McCain is the only candidate who will be ready to take on the challenges this country faces on Day One. His Senate career is one of principled leadership, where often he has taken on his own party and joined with the opposition to craft bipartisan legislation that both sides could live with. For conservatives, he has always been strongly pro-life, opposes gay marriage, and wishes to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. He has shown to be a careful steward of the people’s money, shunning earmarks and the pork that his colleagues on both sides of the aisle are all too enamored with. He understands the threats this country faces from abroad and the dangers of appeasement. His judgment on these matters has been noteworthy…he was among the first to call for a surge in Iraq, initially opposed by Bush, the same surge that has done much to stabilize the country and brought us closer to victory. In the recent (and ongoing) Russia-Georgia conflict, he immediately stood with our staunch ally Georgia and called for the Russians to end their aggression, taking the lead even when the White House seemed caught flat footed.
Experience matters in times of war and economic uncertainty, and that’s why McCain is the best choice in November.
1) He claims he will select for confirmation Justices who will interpret the law, not legislate from the bench. [In our form of government, the Legislature is supposed to enact laws, but all too often liberal justices take that act upon themselves. When judges enact bad laws, there is no other branch of government to rein them in; when the legislature passes an unconstitutional law, at least we can hope the Supreme Court will rein them in.]
2. He definitely is not a classic social conservative, so that should appeal to (or at least appease) those who are immoral and those who are libertarian in their social views.
3. The old bastard is probably too old to run a second time, that is a major positive.
4. He may act as a drag on all the idiotic laws that the democratic majority will try to enact. Many believe that Washington does less damage when the same party doesn’t control the Senate, House and White House.
5. If we elect him president, he won’t be able to sponser any more unconstitutional legislation, such as McCain-Feingold!
