Lowell (Fulk) has recently brought a story to my attention and I think he wants my opinion on it. (I consider the way he went about doing it completely disingenuous, but I’ll save that for another post.)
A gunman interrupted a Unitarian Universalist gathering in Tennessee, killed two people and wounded seven before being subdued.
My opinion; this is absolutely horrible.
I also disagree with the assessment from a fellow blogger that someone should have been packing heat, especially when this blogger does not follow his own advice. While a defensive firearm may have helped, I think the situation was handled very well. They didn’t all cower in a corner, but rushed the guy and tackled him. Very brave thing to do and apparently pretty effective.
Also, whether you consider the UUs to be a church or not has no bearing on what happened. Even if you consider it a social club, it doesn’t take away from the fact that people who were minding their own business were injured and killed. The incident is all the more sad and deserving of you compassion if you feel this way as two people unprepared for death have just now faced it.
Whatever a person’s beliefs, they shouldn’t be shot for peacefully practicing them.

Its obviously a horrible thing, but what is the preoccupation with posting on it? There are no doubt countless stories that I deem very important too that probably aren’t posted on RockDem…but, I don’t go there questioning why they’re not posted.
I thank you for your post Megan, and for your opinion regarding this event. And yes, your thoughts mean a great deal to me and I am greatly heartened and reassured by what you have written.
Disingenuous? I don’t think so. Seems to mean:
lacking in frankness, candor, or sincerity..
I believe I was quite frank, candid and sincere.
In any case, I greatly appreciate your giving your valuable (to me) consideration and opinion words on your site regarding this issue.
Oh Right Side, perhaps you should. I think it would be helpful. I don’t always agree with your opinion, but I do appreciate and respect your thoughts on a given matter…
