SPAM in SWACistan?

Who would have thought?

Two ways this could have happened. 1) Google’s spam filter could have picked it up. 2)SWACgirl was turned in by a disgruntled reader.

She makes a case for it being number two. It does appear that people might be taking advantage of google and reporting blogs they don’t like as spam.

But number one should still be considered. Perhaps SWACgirl met the criteria for a spam blog.

From Wikipedia:

Spam blogs, sometimes referred to by the neologism splogs, are artificially created weblog sites which the author uses to promote affiliated websites or to increase the search engine rankings of associated sites. The purpose of a splog can be to increase the PageRank or backlink portfolio of affiliate websites, to artificially inflate paid ad impressions from visitors, and/or use the blog as a link outlet to get new sites indexed.

Maybe a little less circle linking is in order? ;)

    Zing.

This is just another example of how the Lefty-blogs continue to quiet SWACGirl from telling the truth and get the facts out. SWACGirl has endlessly posted just about anything that happens in SWACLAND including how the flowers are doing and what road she drove down this week. And even better yet she has all the other SWACers organized to link to her so she can get the treasured “ego-clicks” so they can crow how poular they are. Circle-jerk?

You “Lefty’s” are just jealous that you don’t have a true grassroots orginization and leader like SWACGirl!

Standby for post with pictures on how well the SWACLawn is doing.

Ah, I see Yankee Phil picked up on the one little part of the wiki definition that SWACgirl doesn’t fit. http://yankeephilip.blogspot.com/2008/07/google-spam-is-everywhere.html

Phil, google probably has no way of knowing that SWACgirl is a real person. I’m sure they don’t have time to go personally visit every blogger to make sure they are real. I bet they have some kind of formula that analyzes posting habits. She’s enjoyed the benefits of circling linking for a long time, and now it may have come back to bite her.

What is “circle linking”? I am being accused of it but don’t know what it is.

BTW, the “GOP Rock” who has commented on here is not the one who comments on my blog. This one is trying to sound as if he’s a friend but, obviously, he’s not. Cute.

Circle linking is when someone posts the same thing on multiple blogs and then links back and forth. Or when someone has a group of friends that all have blogs and they all link back and forth on a regular basis. Or one person will post something and then everyone else pretty much copies the post onto their own blogs and then link back and forth.

Often times one will see phrases like “cross posted at…”, “read more at…”

Sometimes it may go something like this:
Blogger A has an excellent post[I don't really have anything of my own to say about it but here is almost the whole thing quoted and a link as well] then Blogger A might make a post that goes like this “Blogger B agrees with me here’s a link”.

Follow all the links and you make a circle.

I can see how a computer program could mistake things like this as being spam if it is done often enough.

Ahh … so THAT’S what I’m being accused of? Heh. Interesting.

When the SWAC bloggers first began blogging two years ago, we were in the midst of the George Allen campaign. In August 2006 “macaca” hit the blogs and we were baptized by fire as the liberal bloggers went absolutely bezerk.

We studied what the dems were doing. Raising Kaine was an umbrella for numerous independent liberal blogs, and those bloggers would post and cross-post with RK. They amplified the message by repeating it over and over. Were their sites tagged as “spam”?

If I am now being criticized for “circle linking,” I learned it from the libs.

Seems that the conservative bloggers have learned from the liberal bloggers … and been very effective at it … thus being criticized by the libs. I will not stop the practice I learned from them because I know THEY will not stop. “Fight fire with fire.”

I’m not saying that you have to stop. Just that you have to live with the consequences.

    blame a liberal.
    nice personal responsibility.

And exactly which liberals are criticizing your circle linking tactic?

SWAC girl, I’m a big fan of yours. Keep up the good work. [though i don't frequent your blog much, as i can't post there.]

p.s. sorry to see zen is still around.
