About a month ago the liberal left was in an uproar over a tee shirt that likened Obama to Curious George. Those that thought there was a resemblance were labeled as racists for comparing a black man to a monkey. (Even if it was a cute cuddly monkey that, truth be told, does have a resemblance and our current president has been compared to monkeys and mocked for it on many occasions.)
So now there is a new Obama product–the Sock Obama. Yep, you guessed it. An Obama sock MONKEY!
Now a liberal on a liberal blog is promoting it, calling it “cuter than a Bush monkey” and ending with a phrase that causes mothers the world over to grit their teeth: “I want one. Now.”
If it is racist to think Obama looks like Curious George, how can it be ok to want an Obama sock monkey?
Please explain the rules. I’m confused.

I beg to differ on the liberal blog part.
Yeah, this stuff should probably be laughed at (just like the CG shirt?) but the fact remains that some people are more sensitive to this stuff than the rest of us are. So the questions are: Is it ever acceptable to compare politicians to animals? Is it only acceptable if the politician is from the right race or party? Does context really matter?
